If you’re looking for an app that feels like a truly native Android experience, Infinity is probably one of the best on the market. It sticks to Google’s Material design language and adheres pretty closely to the Android development guidelines for an app, making for an extremely slick and easy-to-navigate UI, especially compared to the official app.

But a clean interface isn’t all that Infinity offers. It’s much more customizable and has a few extra features like an autoscrolling mode, multi-reddit support, and more. However, due to Reddit’s API changes, Infinity does cost $2.99 per month. Not terrible considering what other subscriptions can run these days, but unfortunately, the one-time purchase for Infinity is no longer an option. Infinity+ does still exist on the Play Store, but it’s functionally identical to the free version these days.

Atom for Reddit

Atom for Reddit is another highly customizable app with a slick UX that fits right in with other well-designed Android apps. It offers a ton of options to control dark mode, how you read posts, custom filtering options, data saving options, and more.

The entire feature list is fairly lengthy, making Atom an excellent choice for power users. It even supports its own media player for showing you images and videos and being able to send and receive messages and get notifications about updates is equally handy.

It’s also one of the very few third-party apps that’s operating off of ads and a one-time purchase, which can be a selling point for someone who doesn’t want to pick up another subscription.

Relay for Reddit

Relay for Reddit is one of the more veteran apps on this list, having first launched way back in 2011. When Relay first launched it was totally free, but it’s had to shift around Reddit’s third-party policies.

The app itself is as good as ever, with a great interface, lots of customization options for browsing posts and feeds, and some moderator tools to help make things easy if you help out with a busy subreddit. It supports high-resolution images, filtering out subreddits you don’t like, easily navigable comments for things like AMA threads, and more.

Relay has shifted to pricing tiers that give you so many API calls per month, based on how much the developer has to pay to Reddit. That can make the pricing structure a little more confusing than some of the other apps (it’s hard to know how many 1000 API calls are until you’re using the app) but that can also mean you can find a plan that more closely fits how often you’re using Reddit.

Now for Reddit

Now for Reddit is another app that helps build off of Google’s Material design language and creates a much more user-friendly, swipe-based UX. It bakes in all of the things you’d expect from a Reddit app, like being able to vote on comments, save posts, and browse different subreddits, and it keeps things properly synced up with the desktop version of Reddit.

Now also supports full Reddit mail capabilities and has one of the better text editors on a mobile app, in case you’re the person who’s frequently writing longer posts or comments on the site.

You can browse as a guest for free with Now for Reddit, but you’ll need to log in and sign up for the $3.99 subscription to remove any restrictions and access the full features of the app.

While Reddit apps are a little more sparse than they used to be, there are still a handful of good options for someone looking for an alternative. The official Reddit app is always available for free (with ads, of course) but if you’re ready to try something new out, any of these on the list are great options.
