The best-selling smartphones in the world are last year’s iPhones

The three best-selling smartphones in the world last quarter were all last year’s iPhones, with two older Samsung models taking 4th and 5th place, according to a new market intelligence report.

The world’s best-selling smartphone in Q4 2024 was the base model iPhone 15, capturing 3% of the total global smartphone market …

Counterpoint Research says the iPhone 15 Pro Max and Pro models took 2nd and 3rd places.

  1. iPhone 15
  2. iPhone 15 Pro Max
  3. iPhone 15 Pro
  4. Galaxy A15 5G
  5. Galaxy A15 4G
  6. iPhone 14
  7. Redmi 13C
  8. Galaxy A05
  9. Galaxy S24
  10. Ultra Galaxy S24

The firm doesn’t give shipment numbers – that’s information paywalled for clients – but does say that the Pro Max did particularly well.

The iPhone 15 Pro Max closed the gap with the iPhone 15 compared to a year back as consumers opted for a better camera and display facilitated by easier financing and trade-ins.

Overall, Apple dropped slightly thanks to better performance by Samsung phones.

It’s typical for last year’s models to dominate Q3 sales given the limited time the new models are on sale during the quarter. Additionally, consumers in many markets tend to strike a compromise between features and price by buying last year’s models.
