While the i4 isn’t a cheap car by any means, its starting price is more than stomachable compared to other electric options in the luxury segment. It comes solely as a Gran Coupe, meaning two rows of seats and four doors, and it delivers a great balance of comfort and performance, in a way that only a BMW can.
There is bad news for those looking for the most affordable model as BMW decided to drop the entry-level eDrive35 from the lineup last year. However, we think the jump to the eDrive40 or the xDrive40 was always worth the extra money. The added performance and range made these the best bang-for-your-buck options anyway.
What Is New For 2025
BMW has made a number of changes to the i4 Gran Coupe for the 2025 model year, including adding new options on the color palette, namely Cape York Green metallic and Vegas Red metallic. The front fascia has also been slightly redesigned, with a chrome finish surrounding the kidney grille and a new set of lights.
The interior has also received a number of changes. New steering wheel designs are available alongside classy brushed aluminium accents and Gray Blue Ash open-pore wood trim. The upholstery that graces the instrument pannel has also been improved, with it being a little smoother and covering more of the dash.

The BMW i4 comes in three distinct flavors which deliver varying driving dynamics and levels of performance. The eDrive40 hosts a single electric motor that drives the rear axle. The xDrive40 and the M50 both use a dual-motor setup, with the latter featuring more powerful motors.
The i4 is heavy in any iteration, with the M50 weighing more than the gas-powered M3. However, the instant torque delivered by its electric motors provides some thrilling acceleration when you put your foot flat to the floor. The rear-wheel drive model is a little more playful but the standard adaptive dampers and a variable-ratio steering system on all-wheel drive models definitely make it worth the upgrade.

We’re not claiming that the i4 is industry-leading when it comes to its efficiency or range. However, when you consider the price that you pay for this Gran Coupe, you can’t complain too much about how far it goes on a single charge. Do note, however, that opting for larger than standard wheels will affect overall efficiency and range.
Every 2025 i4, from the eDrive40 to the M50, comes fitted with a standard 83.4-kWh battery pack. All models also feature 200-kW charging capability, which BMW claims can add between 88 and 108 miles of range in 10 minutes. The German brand claims you can charge your i4 from 10 to 80 percent capacity in as little as 31 minutes. You can also store up to five individual Plug & Charge contracts with charge points to automatically handle any billing.

BMW has a pretty impressive heritage, built on blending sporty driving dynamics with high-end materials and class-leading technology. This is something they are clearly carrying over into their new-generation electric vehicles, something you are instantly hit with the second you enter the cabin of the i4.
Comfort and Cargo
Unlike a number of other EVs on the market, the i4 doesn’t lean too far into a futuristic design language. It manages to maintain the feel of a traditional BMW, blending contemporary elements with classic ones to create a cabin that is forward-thinking yet remains classy. As always, you have the ability to customize the cabin to your taste, with a number of different trim and material combinations.
Those who are familiar with the regular 4-Series Gran Coupe will find that the i4 offers a similar amount of interior space. Its sloping roofline means that those in the back seats won’t have an endless amount of headspace, but they should still be comfortable. The traditional trunk is also plenty accommodating for luggage or groceries.
Infotainment and Technology
The one element in the cabin of the i4 that does not stick to traditional convention, a somewhat large element, is the massive screen which sits atop the dashboard. A 12.3-inch digital gauge display shares a bezel with a massive 14.9-inch touchscreen running the updated iDrive 8.5 software.
While the screen is large and a lot of core functions are trapped inside menus, BMW’s iDrive software is pretty user-friendly. You can control the system via touch controls, a rotary knob on the center console, or voice/gesture controls, which work surprisingly well. Popular features like Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and a Wi-Fi hotspot are all standard fare.
