The CMF Phone 2 Could Be On Its Way; Could Get an Extra Camera

Nothing is one major smartphone OEM that is doing things differently from the others. The company places a big focus on design, both in hardware and software, which leads to phones that are instantly recognizable. That same company launched the CMF by Nothing sub-brand, which is more affordable, but arguably even more design-focused.

The CMF Phone 1 launched last year and it was a pretty notable hit considering it only cost $199. We’re slowly approaching the one-year anniversary of that device and it seems that CMF might be gearing up for its launch, going by a teaser that it posted on its social media channels.

CMF by Nothing Teased Four Upcoming Devices Using Pokémon

Earlier this year, Nothing released a pretty vague teaser on its social media channels. It was a sort of pixellated image of Arcanine, which is a fire-type Pokemon from the first generation of the popular video game and anime series. That teaser ended up pointing to the Nothing Phone 3a series, which have since launched. It’s not quite sure exactly what relationship Arcanine had with the device or if it was an arbitrary choice.

Either way, CMF by Nothing has just done the same thing, but this time, posting four different Pokémon in separate tweets. These Pokémon are Bulbasaur, literally the very first Pokémon in numerical order, along with Hoothoot, Girafarig, and Gligar. Of the bunch, Nothing India’s X account posted Bulbasaur, and the main Nothing account retweeted Bulbasaur. None of the other Pokémon got the same treatment.

That leads me to believe that Bulbasaur is the main event here, and there’s no better candidate to sit in that spot than a potential CMF Phone 2. The others will likely be some combination of wearables, such as earbuds, a smartwatch, and maybe another neckband set of headphones. Nothing is known to anyone but Nothing. We’re just going to have to be patient and wait for the OEM to tell us more.

The CMF Phone 2 Could Be Another Major Hit If It Doesn’t Hike the Price

The CMF Phone 2 has had some rumors pop up about it, indicating some potential changes to the spec sheet which could be quite well-received, especially for a phone that had a $199 predecessor. For one, the ultimate selling point, its accessory system, doesn’t seem to have any intention to go away. That’s not surprising. It’s a big part of what makes the device stand out so well.

The CMF Phone 1 used a MediaTek Dimensity 7300, and it seems that the CMF Phone 2 will stick to MediaTek, potentially using the Dimensity 7400 that was just unveiled. On top of that, the phone is going to be upgraded from its wide and depth camera combo to include a third camera, potentially an ultrawide. It may drop to a 6.3-inch screen size though, which could end up being a polarizing choice.

However, the one thing I’m most interested in seeing is the addition of NFC. That was the biggest thing missing from the first phone, and if it comes around here, the device could have almost no bad points.
