The Dimensity 900-powered Zero 5G is Infinix’s first 5G smartphone

Coming in with a fancy new design language is Infinix with its very first 5G smartphone – the Zero 5G. Powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 900 chipset which also provides the 5G connectivity, Infinix’s new flagship offers premium features such as a 120Hz display and a big 5,000mAh battery that supports 33W fast-charging.

Featuring a uni-curve design that is reminiscent of OPPO’s Find X3 Pro, the Zero 5G from Infinix uses a composite material to achieve its sleek aesthetic. It’s available in Cosmic Black, Horizon Blue, and the rather fetching Skylight Orange colorway that has a faux-leather finish.

Its 6.78-inch display has FHD+ resolution as well as the aforementioned 120Hz refresh rate which is accompanied by 240Hz touch-sampling. The Dimensity 900 processor is paired with 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM which can be bolstered by up to 3GB of virtual RAM which is taken from the 128GB of UFS 3.1 built-in storage.

    Key Features:

    • A 5000mAh battery and 33W quick charge: The 5000 mAh battery supports all-day usage and can be quickly charged with TÜV Rheinland safe fast-charge technology enabling the smartphone to last through 9.4 hours of gaming, 27 days on standby, 22 hours of calling and 152 hours of music playback (testing data provided by Infinix lab).
    • Universal Flash Storage UFS 3.1 and LPDDR5: The LPDDR5 brings a new height of speed for ZERO 5G smartphone, which substantially improves memory performance, and further reduces power consumption. As an added boost, the UFS 3.1-based storage doubles sequential read performance and increases download speeds.
    • Infinix’s Dar-Link 2.0: The software improves the image stability and the sensitivity of touch control that is based on an AI algorithm, while simultaneously bringing down the temperature of the device to provide a fully immersive gaming experience.
    • XArena: Enhances your gaming experience by integrating game applications into a single zone and thus game booster is enabled for the game. There are quick settings that allow you to focus on your game by blocking messages and incoming calls without worrying about any other distractions.
    • Heat Pipe Thermal Module 2.0: This feature systematically monitors the temperature of the ZERO 5G smartphone so users can immerse themselves in the long-lasting gameplay without worrying about overheating.
    • Android XOS 10: The ZERO 5G’s XOS 10 software (based on Android 11) offers an upgraded interface, AI voice assistant, smart assistant, phone cloner 2.0 and doc correction. For enhanced security, it also comes with X-proof, which secures the screen from behind, and privacy tracker, so users can keep their information private and control when it is shared, as the data is never uploaded to the cloud.

The trio of rear cameras is made up of a 48MP main sensor with 30x optical zoom, a 13MP portrait sensor with 2x optical zoom, and a 2MP ‘virtual’ sensor which will presumably help with depth-of-field information. A 16MP selfie camera is housed in the central punch-hole with a front-facing flash to help with poor lighting conditions.

Easy on the eye, the handset is not likely to go on sale in the US and will instead be sold in emerging markets such as India and Zambia.

He’s been an Android fan ever since owning an HTC Hero, with the Dell Streak being his first phablet. He currently carries a Realme GT Neo 2 in his pockets, a Lenovo Yoga Tab 11 in his backpack, and thinks nothing of lugging a 17-inch laptop around the world. When not immersed in the world of Android and gadgets, he’s an avid sports fan, and like all South Africans, he loves a good Braai (BBQ).
