Apple has finally bowed to a new EU law and changed its iPhone to a generic charging system but left questions about the environmental impact of the update.
To applause from the audience in the Steve Jobs Theatre in Cupertino, California, the company said that the iPhone 15 would adopt the USB-C charging system worldwide.
The move was in effect forced on the company by a Brussels edict that sought to reduce the number of chargers to combat waste and cut costs for consumers. At one stage there were 33 charging systems in operation.
