Despite the distinct lack of Android phones with MagSafe-like capabilities, I’ve been using MagSafe as an Android user for a few years. It started on a whim, and now I can’t use an Android phone without a MagSafe case.
My MagSafe Journey on Android
My MagSafe journey started with the Galaxy S22 back in 2022. I wanted to slim down my everyday carry, especially for running. So, I bought a Peak Design magnetic case from Amazon, and it worked surprisingly well. I had reservations, but the magnets were easily strong enough to hold a MagSafe wallet. I even found that I didn’t need my full-size wallet as much as I thought.
I was so impressed with the MagSafe case that I decided to get an Anker MagSafe wireless charger as well. Then, I added a wireless charging battery pack with MagSafe. Without really thinking about it, I had become invested in the MagSafe ecosystem. When I upgraded to the Pixel 7, I had to buy a MagSafe case again–and again when I switched to the Pixel 9. Oops.

Why I Can’t Live Without MagSafe
The main thing I love about MagSafe is its modularity. This was very trendy in Android phones for a short time, but Apple is the only company that pulled it off. There’s a large ecosystem of accessories that simply snap onto any MagSafe-compatible iPhone or, if you have the right gear, an Android phone.
I have never been a fan of folio wallet phone cases, but I use my MagSafe wallet every single day. The beauty of MagSafe is I don’t need to buy an entirely new wallet to fit my phone when I upgrade. I can keep using the same wallet and just buy a new MagSafe case. All of my other accessories will continue to work, too.
The other big benefit of MagSafe is that it makes wireless charging much easier. With a traditional wireless charger, you have to be careful to align your phone correctly on the charging pad. I’ve woken up in the morning far too many times with a nearly dead phone because it was ever so slightly misaligned on the charger.
With MagSafe, you don’t have to worry about alignment. The magnets in the case will automatically snap your phone into place on the charger. This makes it much easier to charge your phone wirelessly with confidence every time. Not to mention the improved connection and charging speed.
The same applies to battery packs that use MagSafe. It’s nice to be able to snap the pack on the back of the phone and not be tethered to anything. Of course, these are just a few basic things you can do with MagSafe. There’s a whole world of accessories to explore.
Qi2 is Coming, But Not Soon Enough
In theory, I shouldn’t need to keep buying MagSafe cases for my Android phones. The Qi2 wireless charging standard is on its way, and it’s based on MagSafe technology. The bad news is, at the time of writing, only one Android phone supports Qi2: the HMD Skyline. The recently announced Galaxy S25, which many were hoping would fully support Qi2, did not include magnets. However, it’s still looking like 2025 will be the year for Qi2 adoption.
If you’re an Android user who’s thinking about trying out MagSafe, I highly recommend it. You can find MagSafe cases for most popular Android phones on Amazon. Just make sure you buy a case from a reputable brand to ensure proper alignment for wireless charging.
