The Galaxy Ring Will Launch At Samsung Unpacked This Summer
The Samsung Galaxy Ring teaser was our first teaser into the smartphone maker’s plans for the wearable segment, and we now know that we can expect to see it officially announced later this year at Samsung Unpacked in July, according to ETNews.
Summer’s Unpacked event is usually when the foldables in Samsung’s repertoire are shown, along with their successors to their current wearables — the Galaxy Watch (and potentially Galaxy Fit) devices. This year, the Galaxy Ring will join them, marking an exciting moment of change for the company.
We know a little about what this health-focused compact wearable can do. It can measure heart rate and blood pressure, take an ECG, track sleep and other health metrics, and enable contactless payment via NFC. It also seems that it will come in eight predefined sizes to easily fit different finger sizes.
What Will The Samsung Galaxy Ring Bring To The Wearables Market?
The smart ring market already exists, with the Oura Ring being the easy leader right now. As of 2021, they had more than half of the market share. Of course, with Samsung being a massive conglomerate compared to the Finnish company that manufactures the Oura Ring, the segment is bound to shake up massively.
If you ask me, Samsung is about to bring significant visibility to smart rings. They’re not a hidden secret, but they aren’t as well known as they could be since no industry leaders are involved in the space yet. Once the Galaxy Ring launches, popularity will be on the rise, and it is expected that other wearable manufacturers will decide to jump on the trend.
Rumors of Apple Joining The Smart Ring Game Soon?
There have been rumors of Apple working on a smart ring for ages now, fueled by multiple patents being filed for ring-type smart devices. Patents to this effect were spotted over ten years ago; another was seen in 2019. Apple is not a company that shies away from innovation, so a smart ring certainly isn’t out of their skill set.
However, there have been no solid links to an Apple smart ring hitting the production line anytime soon. For now, if you’re a smartphone enthusiast, Samsung’s model will be the only one available, but if you’re an Android fan, that’s more than enough.
