The HMD Skyline Looks To Be An Upcoming Model Coming Rather Soon

HMD bought Nokia back in 2016 and released several devices using the formerly substantial manufacturer’s name. The company has finally shed the name off its shoulders and has begun to release devices under the HMD name instead, ditching the numbers that were common in Nokia’s camp and going with its own nomenclature.

HMD has released some self-branded phones this year already, and seems to have no intention of slowing down on its releases. This time around, a leak shows us some insight into several phones coming from the company, likely very soon, but the most noteworthy of them is the HMD Skyline, primarily because of its very reminiscent design. Just looking at it, you can tell that the Skyline was inspired by the Nokia Lumia devices of old.

It’s hard to hate on that decision, to be honest. I think the Lumia devices were very good-looking back then and even now. The design does mean that you’re getting relatively chunky “bezels”, but if you don’t mind that, then you’ll likely get the chance for a pretty snazzy device.

The Specs Of The HMD Skyline Aren’t Too Disappointing Either

HMD_MEME’S, a tipster on X, was the one who brought us the first image of the HMD Skyline, but that’s not where their benevolence stops, as they have also provided us all with a good look at the spec sheet for this upcoming smartphone. To be honest, it’s not too shabby.

The device is expected to come with a 6.67-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with HDR10+ certification and 120Hz refresh rate. It’ll be protected with Gorilla Glass Victus and apparently have some kind of curved screen, but I’m not too sure how the design will allow for that.

Inside, there will be a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chip, which places this smackdab in the mid-range of the smartphone market. There’ll be 256GB of storage with either 8GB or 12GB of RAM. The battery will be a sizable 4,900 mAh unit with 33W wired charging and 30W wireless charging (that’s the smallest gap between wired and wireless charging I’ve seen before, so I’d take that with a pinch of salt). There will also be IP67 certification, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, and a headphone jack.

We also know that the device will have a 108MP main camera with OIS, an 8MP ultra-wide, and a 2MP depth sensor (do we still need these?). The front camera will be a 32MP lens with OIS and autofocus. It is expected to launch at roughly $500 for the base model.
