The Kovol Sprint 140W GaN Is The Ideal Charger For Your Apple MacBook Pro

The world is going crazy for GaN chargers right now. The release of the latest GaN 3 standard for gallium nitride chargers has boosted the market. This newer technology uses chipsets made from GaN (gallium nitride), resulting in smaller chargers that output more power and create less carbon. What’s not to like?

The latest GaN charger to pitch up on my desk is the Kovol Sprint 140W PD 2-port GaN wall charger. Delivering a whopping 140W of output, the Kovol Sprint offers the fastest possible charging speed for a MacBook Pro 16-inch 2021. It can charge to 56% in 30 minutes, an impressive performance.

This new charger supports the PD 3.1 standard with a fixed voltage and power output of 28V/140W. Along with faster charging and wider compatibility, this PD 3.1 GaN charger is ideal for powering and charging high-end laptops and other USB-C devices.

Thanks to its two ports, it’s possible to use the Kovol Sprint 140W to power something like a MacBook Pro while charging an iPhone simultaneously. The main USB-C port supports a maximum output of 120W, while the USB-A port has a maximum output of 18W, which is sufficient for many smartphones and tablets.

Kovol’s Q-Pulse technology offers surge protection and prevents the charger from overheating, enabling 100% safe charging. Thanks to its high efficiency, the charger stays relatively cool when charging, unlike many regular silicone-based chargers.

With support for PD 3.1/PPS/QC 3.0 charging standards, the Kovol Sprint is compatible with virtually all mobile devices, including phones, tablets, and USB-C laptops like Apple’s MacBook Pro and MacBook Air.

Verdict: While the Kovol Sprint is slightly larger than some other GaN chargers, it looks similar to an Apple laptop wall charger. If you want to use it with the MacBook Pro 16-inch model, you’ll need to get a USB-C to MagSafe 3 cable. Nevertheless, this is a handy charger and sufficiently affordable that you could have one for home and one for the office. I love the fact it has both USB-C and USB-A ports. Better still, it’s available with US, EU or UK plugs. Great price and great value for money. Recommended.

Pricing & Availability: The Kovol Sprint 140W PD 2-port GaN wall charger is available now and costs $89.99/ £89.99.
