The Long-Awaited S24 FE Might Be Pointlessly More Expensive

In recent years, Samsung has released a “Fan Edition”, or FE, model to go along with its flagship S series devices (though they skipped 2022). These FE devices are meant to provide the most important parts of the flagship experience of that year, at a much lower price point.

We’ve been looking forward to hearing more about the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE, which seems set to launch soon. Today, we got another important piece of information, related to the upcoming device’s pricing. However, it’s certainly not good news and in its own way, makes the device a pointless purchase.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 FE Could See A $100 Price Jump, Based On Leaked Pricing

The Samsung Galaxy S23 FE came out in October last year and launched at $629 (though it was announced at $599; that didn’t happen though). While that price was certainly high, it was easy enough to swallow. In the European region, it cost €699 at launch. Thanks to Roland Quandt over at WinFuture, we now have an idea of how much the S24 FE is going to cost in Europe this time around, giving us insight into its price in the US.

The new Galaxy S24 FE is expected to have a price hike to €799 in Europe, which is rather ridiculous for a phone that can’t be considered a proper flagship device. It tries to be a flagship phone, but it cuts back on enough to justify its existence as a Fan Edition device instead. The price is meant to match that since that’s where all the appeal is.

Unfortunately, a €100 price increase in Europe is a major pointer to a similar price increase in other regions. Sure, it might not increase by exactly $100 in the United States, but it is very likely to be close to that. I expect that the S24 FE will launch at $699 to just narrowly avoid crossing that 700-dollar threshold.

There’s Hardly A Point Getting The S24 FE If It Is Going To Cost That Much

Whether you’re in Europe or in the United States, if the Galaxy S24 FE is truly going to cost as much as it seems, there’s no point in getting it. A $700 price tag on the S24 FE makes it one of the most pointless purchases a consumer can make, at least if they’re concerned about getting the most value for their money. There’s a very simple reason why I’m saying this.

Screen and battery sizes aside, the S24 FE doesn’t beat the vanilla S24 in any regard. It will have an underclocked Exynos 2400 (moving away from Snapdragon for the US), a worse telephoto and selfie cam, a much weaker processor, a lower-quality screen, and other downgrades. So, tell me why you should choose a $700 S24 FE over the Galaxy S24 which only costs $719 on Amazon right now?

The answer is, you shouldn’t. I can’t emphasize enough how much value paying that extra $20 will bring to the table. In fact, by the time the S24 FE comes out, the regular S24 might be cheaper. It’s a no-brainer.
