Motorola’s Moto G Stylus 5G (2024) Has Been Released Into The Wild
Motorola, now owned by Lenovo, has had a lofty goal set for it by the company. That’s to become one of the top three smartphone manufacturers in the world by 2026, which is a very big goal. However, the company’s release schedule hasn’t relented and its marketing and offerings have been getting better and better, so at this point it doesn’t seem too impossible.
The newest phone from the company is the Moto G Stylus 5G, but the 2024 variant. So let’s talk about it.
The Design
If you’re familiar with the Motorola Edge 50 family that Motorola released sometime last month, then you’ll instantly notice that the Moto G Stylus 5G this year ditches the relatively dated look that its predecessor brought along, and goes for something a lot more similar to what Motorola did with the Edge 50 phones.
The vegan leather back panel is built in one piece that gently curves over the dual-camera module with a somewhat flat and metallic frame. The phone is available in Caramel Latte and Scarlet Wave colo It’s certainly a more modern look and in keeping with the current trends. The device is also IP52-certified, which means it isn’t built to survive being submerged for underwater shots.
The Stylus
You may also notice that the stylus gets housed in the body of the phone, beside the bottom right corner. You can get aftermarket styluses for several phones but that’s just like faking the touch from a finger. This is different. The only other 2024 phone that comes with a similar feature is the S24 Ultra, but that’s no shock.
The stylus has had a lot more love and attention given to it this year. It has a new design, Motorola says the contact area on the pen has been made larger, and the software behind everything is even better. This should make things a lot more enjoyable.
It’ll make it easier to markup notes and documents as well as simplify photo editing. You’ll also get a Favorites feature that will bring up a selection of specific apps as soon as you pop out your stylus.
The Screen
The display here is a 6.7-inch FHD+ pOLED unit and it’s not too shabby. It’s got a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz, which Motorola doesn’t shy away from. It is also capable of 1200 nits of peak brightness.
The Hardware
The Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 is the chip in 2024’s Moto G Stylus 5G and it comes along with an 8GB/256GB storage configuration, though you’ll be able to push the storage up to as much as 2TB thanks to a microSD slot.
Inside, there’s a 5,000 mAh battery that can charged fast with 30W when wired and 15W when wireless. You also get a USB Type-C 2.0 port, Android 14, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
The Cameras
The camera setup is acceptable, with a 50MP primary sensor with OIS and PDAF. The second camera is a 13MP ultrawide, which isn’t a bad option for a second camera (anything is better than a “depth” sensor in 2024).
The front camera is a 32MP unit that should be able to get the job done for your selfies and Snaps. You’ll be able to shoot at up to FHD/60, whether you’re using the front or rear camera.
Pricing And Availability
For a phone with a stylus in the body, a rare offering, this phone will be available from major platforms like Amazon, Best Buy, and Motorola.com from May 30th at just $399 in the United States.
