The OnePlus 10 Pro folds when it should have held in durability test

As with so many other smartphones before it, the recently launched OnePlus 10 Pro underwent a durability test at the hands of the chief protagonist, JerryRigEverything. How did it go? Well, it’s safe to say that the results speak for themselves, but we’ll go a step further and say that it’s not good. Not good at all.

You know the drill: scratch, burn, bend, and un-bend to check if the handset in question holds up to such intense scrutiny. During the test, the OnePlus 10 Pro managed level 6 in the scratch test (sans screen protector), the display showed a permanent burn after 45 seconds which is what you might expect with a modern OLED display.

It’s the bend test that reveals the flexible nature of the OnePlus 10 Pro whose glass rear panel cracks just under the camera housing during the first attempt. The second flex is disastrous. This isn’t a bend so much as the OnePlus 10 Pro making like a Galaxy Z Flip and becoming a clamshell. It seems that the placing of the battery, combined with the rather hefty camera housing and the lining up of the volume rocker results in undue stress being placed on the metal frame which it isn’t able to cope with.

It has to be said that JerryRigEverything’s durability test takes things to the next level when it comes to seeing how much stress and strain a smartphone can take, and who in their right minds actually tries to bend their phone on purpose? Sadly, it also has to be mentioned that if you carry your OnePlus 10 Pro in your front or back trouser pocket, you may pull it out and find that it’s folded without your permission.

He’s been an Android fan ever since owning an HTC Hero, with the Dell Streak being his first phablet. He currently carries a Realme GT Neo 2 in his pockets, a Lenovo Yoga Tab 11 in his backpack, and thinks nothing of lugging a 17-inch laptop around the world. When not immersed in the world of Android and gadgets, he’s an avid sports fan, and like all South Africans, he loves a good Braai (BBQ).
