Today, a few days ahead of the OnePlus Summer Launch Event, the company has announced that its upcoming OnePlus Nord 4 is going to be its very first phone to support six whole years of software updates. That’s massive for consumers, and generally speaking, it’s great to see how Android devices are improving how long they support a device after its release.

However, the way OnePlus phrased things can be slightly misguiding. That’s six whole years of security updates and not six years of major OS updates (which would still put it under the just-launched Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6). Instead, you’ll get four years of major OS updates, which isn’t bad on its own, but it is integral that is clarified.

This is good news for OnePlus lovers in general though. The OnePlus Nord 4 is a midrange device, and being the first one in the company’s lineup to support six years of software updates means that OnePlus’s upcoming flagships are either going to match that or even surpass it.

The OnePlus Battery Health Engine And Fluency A-Rating Should Keep Your Phone Healthier For Longer

OnePlus also mentions how the device is going to come with what it calls its Battery Health Engine. This is said to use AI to understand how you use your battery and how you charge your phone, and with this, when charging your device, it will optimize how much power it provides as well as when it decides to let your phone hit 100%. This should keep your battery in good health for much longer than competitors can manage.

On top of that, OnePlus has tested the Nord 4 and it has been awarded the TUV SUD Fluency 72 Month A Rating. Of course, this must sound relatively confusing, but it is basically a measure of how smoothly your device will run after a certain amount of time.

Without dwelling too much on the technical aspects of things, in the case of the Nord 4, this rating means that after 72 months of using the device, it was determined that the device will still be able to perform its basic functions and open specific apps in an acceptable amount of time. In the case of the OnePlus Nord 4, not only was it shown to be able to work smoothly after six years, but it is the only phone as of now to get a 72 Month rating. That’s impressive.
