Another day, another launch, am I right? Today brings us the Realme 8 Pro that sports a mammoth 108MP main camera, a Super AMOLED display, Snapdragon 720G processor, and 50W Dart fast-charging in a bold design that sees Realme’s slogan emblazoned on the rear panel. It’s a move that could polarize opinion if you prefer an understated finish, but as a whole, the Realme 8 Pro is an intriguing mix of hardware and affordable pricing.

Both the camera housing and the ‘Dare to Leap’ slogan on the rear panel feature a fluorescent material that absorbs light and causes them to glow in the dark. It’s an unusual detail, but one that some users will enjoy.
Under the hood, you’ll find the Snapdragon 720G processor along with 6/8GB of RAM and 128GB of UFS 2.1 storage, along with MicroSD card support. The 6.4-inch Super AMOLED display has FHD+ resolution (2400 x 1080), 1000 nits peak brightness, and gamers will be happy to learn that there is a 180Hz touch sampling rate.

On to the quadruple rear cameras which consist of a 2nd-generation 108MP ISOCELL Plus module from Samsung that has a large 1/1.52-inch sensor. The 108MP camera supports 9-in-1 Pixel Binning which uses 0.7μm pixels to be combined to simulate large 2.1μmpixels and improve the image quality under dim lighting conditions. There’s an 8MP 119-degree ultra-wide-angle lens, along with a couple of 2MP sensors for Macro and Monochrome. Finally, a single 16MP selfie camera is housed in the punch-hole in the top-left corner of the display.

Notable camera features include Starry Mode that takes 16 images every 15-seconds for 4 minutes, and then uses an algorithm to produce a final picture. Starry Time-lapse video will take the same number of images, keeping the last 15 photos to product into a time-lapse video at 30fps.

Tilt-shift mode will reduce the world around you into a miniature set, adding a blurring effect to cause the human eye to believe that it’s looking at a miniature landscape. Realme also announced the world-first Tilt-shift Time-lapse video feature that supports shooting time-lapse videos with 10x playback. Other modes include Neon Portrait, Dual-view video, and Ultra Nightscape video.

A big 4,500mAh battery keeps the lights on, with 50W SuperDart Charge that will produce 50% capacity in just 17 minutes, and 100% in 47 minutes via the 65W charger that’s included in the box. Running on Realme UI 2.0, the handset launches with Android 11 out of the box.
So has Realme managed to keep all this at an affordable price? It sure looks like it has, with a price tag of just £279 (~$380) in the UK market, which is just a smidge cheaper than 2020’s Realme 7 Pro that costs £299. The Realme 8 Pro comes in Infinite Blue, Infinite Black, and Punk Black colorways, with orders shipping from March 31st.
