Compared to One UI 6, One UI 7 is said to be a completely different experience. Cosmetically, things are familiar enough. But according to those who have had a taste of it, there seem to be enough changes to the actual performance and smoothness of the OS that it leaves us excited.
For an OS that is meant to be a notable step up, it isn’t too surprising that Samsung is taking its sweet time getting things ready (though a lack of surprise doesn’t negate the frustration). The stable release doesn’t seem anywhere close either, as the OEM just released One UI 7 beta 4 for the S24 series. Let’s talk about the changes it brings.
The Fourth Beta for One UI 7 Starts Rolling Out to S24 Devices
If you’ve got any of the three smartphones that belong to the Galaxy S24 family, you’re in luck. You have the first of Samsung’s older flagships that will eventually get One UI 7, as evidenced by the fact that the fourth beta for the upcoming OS has been rolled out. After all, the S24 series is the sole device family in the beta program.
Let’s talk about some of the changes that the new update brings, according to findings from our friends over at Android Authority.
Log Video Comes to the Galaxy S24 Ultra
One of the S25 features that got a bit of attention from the content creators was the addition of Log video recording. The easy way to understand Log is as the video equivalent of RAW for photos. It provides a lot more control and flexibility during the editing process.
That feature is now available on the Galaxy S24 Ultra through the new One UI 7 beta. Those with the smaller devices won’t get it, sadly.
AI Filter Is Now an Option in the Camera App
Again, another feature that was launched with the S25 lineup is one called AI Filter. It basically gives you the power to create new filters to use for your pictures. You get control over settings like the color temperature, contrast, saturation, grain, and the overall intensity of the filter. For those who enjoy a certain look to their photos, this can save you a lot of time when it comes to editing.
There’s a New Bixby UI
We’re living in an AI-powered world these days, and Google Gemini is becoming the AI assistant of choice (since it has surpassed being just a chatbot at this point) for those with Android devices.
We know that Samsung has an upgraded version of Bixby available in China, and we’re expecting it to come to the rest of the world at some point. However, for now, it is still the same old Bixby that we love (or hate). One UI 7 beta 4 gives it a new look, though, so if you’re one of the six people who use Bixby, you’ll like that.
A Whole Bunch of Bug Fixes
Unsurprisingly, the beta comes with a bunch of bug fixes. That’s part of the whole purpose of a beta program, after all. A lot of UI issues have been cleaned up, including some for the lock screen, always-on display, and quick panel. There was also an issue with the top bar disappearing from the home screen and issues of a stuttering UI when letting go of the fingerprint reader. All of those have been cleaned up.
There is one issue that seems to have been introduced, though. You won’t be able to pay contactless with Google Wallet as the new beta now brings up a warning that says the phone doesn’t “meet security requirements.” If you use Google Wallet daily, it’s best to stick to beta 3 for now.
