If you’re looking for a wearable gadget that can keep you cool and warm, then COOLIFY 2 is the product for you, and here’s our review for you. COOLIFY 2 is a new product from TORRAS, a company known for making high-quality tech products. The COOLIFY 2 is a wearable air conditioner and heater that can be worn around your neck. It’s perfect for staying cool in summer and keeping warm in winter. So, if you’re looking for a versatile and portable way to stay comfortable, COOLIFY 2 is the product for you. The company was kind enough to send us a review unit and naturally, we tested it on the hottest days of the year to make sure we can craft a review article with as much value to you as possible.
Thanks to TORRAS for sending us a camping kit with a test unit of the COOLIFY 2 to do a proper review of the wearable. If you want to know some more about what was in the box, you should also check our unboxing article. Due to supporting the wearer not only in the hot weather but also in the colder hours of the evening and night, the COOLIFY 2 is a great fit for glamping (that’s glamorous camping in case you didn’t hear of that before). But of course, the use case is not limited to just that. You can use the device more often than the days you go camping.
Reviewing the new COOLIFY 2 from TORRAS
The COOLIFY 2 gadget has three different settings, one for the fan, one for cooling, and one for heating. In terms of cooling, it does a great job of lowering the temperature around your neck area. The COOLIFY 2 also has a fan that helps circulate the air and cool you down even further. We tested it on days when the temperature was over 30 degrees Celsius (86° Fahrenheit), and it worked like a charm. The COOLIFY 2 gadget also has a heating setting which is perfect for those cold winter days. We tested the COOLIFY 2 on a summer night that went pretty much near zero degrees Celsius (32° Fahrenheit), and it did an admirable job of keeping our necks warm.
One of the best features of the COOLIFY 2 is that it’s portable and can be taken with you wherever you go. It’s perfect for those who are always on the go and need a quick way to cool down or warm up. The COOLIFY gadget is also very lightweight and comfortable to wear. We didn’t experience any discomfort while wearing it, even for extended periods of time. From the looks of it, it’s not weird either. It looks to others a bit as if you’re wearing a futuristic set of headphones around your shoulders and not as if you’re wearing a portable air conditioning unit on your shoulders.
What about tech specs?
Let’s look at some technical matters of the product. There are currently three different versions of the COOLIFY 2 from TORRAS being the COOLIFY 2 Neck Air Conditioner, COOLIFY 2 Neck Air Conditioner (Long-Endurance Version), and the COOLIFY 2 Neck Air Conditioner (Special Edition), which is the one that we are testing. The long-endurance version differs from the standard edition for having 5.000 mAh instead of 4.000 mAh which allows you to stay cool (or warm) for longer. The special edition has the 5.000 mAh like the long-endurance version, but also comes with a special design carbon fiber design and has some parts with temperature-responsive color-changing coating, which lets you see if the surface is cool or hot.
As far as charging goes, I was pleasantly surprised. The device comes with a modern USB type C port that supports fast charging on all the latest connectors and cables. So, you can charge your new personal A/C as easily as your smartphone or use a belt pack or possibly hook up a power bank that you can carry in your pocket or backpack. Once fully charged, the device can run for about 20 hours in the fan mode, 3 hours in cooling mode, and 6 hours in the heating mode.
When can you benefit from COOLIFY 2?
As some might have heard on social media, I’ve been moving recently and there was a Jurassic Park-esque garden that had to be tamed at first. So, there were many hours of gardening needed in the searing sun. I was so glad that we could test out the COOLIFY 2 for those hours. Of course, you still have to make sure to put on some sunscreen and stay hydrated when working under the sun but having a portable aircon on your shoulders that effectively cools the air surrounding your head is a huge improvement in comparison to not having any chance to fight the heat.
In Germany, where I am located, most of the residential buildings have generally no air conditioning unit so with the climate change we can surely notice that the Summers at least appear to get hotter by the year. So, for everyone who’s from a region where there are usually no aircons in the building, getting a COOLIFY 2 is also something worth looking at if they are having a hard time in Summer. The same goes for people who work in places that are not cooled down in Summer. Relaxing in the heat might be a nuisance but having to work in the heat makes this investment much sweeter.
I know many modern cars also have an air conditioning unit nowadays, but I still recall times without this luxury and if you happen to not be one of the lucky ones to drive a car with an aircon built in, then you might even want to consider the COOLIFY 2 for a car ride. Maybe if you can handle the heat in Summer in a car without aircon, at least think about your kids in the backseat.
I gave the COOLIFY 2 to a few people and asked them if it makes a difference at all to their comfort and it was a funny experience. Everybody made a face as if they are suddenly so relaxed and felt bliss. I didn’t hear one that this doesn’t help, nobody said it’s uncomfortable, and actually, some of them started checking on their phones right away where they could buy it. I understand that reading about something like this or even watching a video makes it difficult to convince someone, truth be told, if I didn’t try it out myself, I possibly also wouldn’t write as positively about it, so you have to trust me on this one, or try it out yourself.
The TechAcuties ask…
I checked with the TechAcute team on what they would like to know about COOLIFY 2 and what I should test in particular. Are you curious to know what they asked and what the answers look like? Read on.
How safe is it?
I would say it’s really safe. I couldn’t imagine that someone is able to break the product or get harmed in any way by operating it. If you are very sensitive to cold air blowing on your neck, you should maybe test the product out first in the lower operation settings and not go full steam on the first use. For heating, you might also want to start low and maybe use the stronger settings only with a scarf beneath the product, if you have sensitive skin.
How to charge it?
It can be very easily charged with a normal USB cable and a USB type C plug.
Does it help in extreme heat?
A suitable question from someone who lives in an area with extreme heat. As I said before, you should always make sure to protect your skin and hydrate yourself enough, as well as stay in the shade as long as you can, but I feel confident that COOLIFY 2 could certainly help in extreme weather to feel better.
Does it leave a mark on your skin?
No, it leaves no marks on your skin. As briefly mentioned though, if you have sensitive skin, try the product on the lower settings at first or wear something beneath for the higher heating settings.
Does it overheat?
No, the product itself does not build up heat on its technical parts.
Can you feel the heat when it’s working?
Even though you only wear the COOLIFY 2 around your neck, I was surprised that it somehow makes your whole body feel less heat. No matter what you do, while you wear the device everything is a whole lot more bearable and it’s a great improvement to the wearer’s comfort.
Do you get static electric shocks from it if you step out in a dry environment?
Absolutely not. The device seems to be very safe and certainly doesn’t give you a shock or something along the line.
Will it make the hair messy?
This is more aimed at people with long hair, but I would say that the airflow is not that strong. The cooling does not entirely come from a fan. The technology is smarter than that and is more about cooling your environment than blowing air at you. If you go for a high-power setting, I could imagine that hair might move and could potentially affect a hairdo, but I would say, everybody under the searing sun should wear a hat or cap anyway to protect their head and skin from the sun. Protecting your style might also be a benefit in this case.
Final thoughts on the product – is the COOLIFY 2 worth it?
The product is available starting at $179 MSRP. If you’re looking on Amazon or other stores you can quickly find a lot of products that are cheaper, but you have to check carefully. Usually, they are very simple products and rip-offs that only have a fan built in and they don’t look that comfortable either. If you want all of the features that I wrote about here in this review article, then stick to the COOLIFY 2 from TORRAS.
Overall, we were very impressed with the COOLIFY 2 during the review and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a wearable air conditioner or heater. It’s well-made, lightweight, comfortable, and does an excellent job at cooling or heating, depending on your needs. So, if you’re in the market for a new gadget to keep you cool or warm, be sure to check out COOLIFY 2 if you liked our review. I’m confident that you won’t be disappointed.
