There Are Lots of Refurbished Dyson Vacuum Deals. Are They Any Good?

Dyson cordless vacuums are expensive, but they go on sale all the time. Refurbished —-or “renewed,” as Dyson calls it —- stick vacuums are usually part of the deals mix, offering even steeper discounts on these pricey but powerful cleaners.

So what’s the catch?

At Wirecutter, we’re comfortable recommending refurbished Dyson stick vacuums, and they’ve been a staple of our deals coverage for years.

Based on owner reviews and what we know about the refurbishing process, we’re confident that the vacuums are sanitary (they won’t bring bugs into your home, for example), and they also perform about as well as a brand-new unit. Plus, they’re often covered by a short warranty or at least a return policy (depending on where you buy) so you have some protection against a complete dud.

Of course, there are some tradeoffs for those upfront savings, which can shave one-third or more off the new sticker price. Minor scuffs and scrapes are the obvious ones. You could also be giving up some longevity.
