Along with the launch of the Pixel 6 series, Google also announced the foldable-friendly Android 12L of which a beta program is planned to go live during December. Focussed on making the most of the extra viewing areas on tablets and folding phones, Android 12L is already available in Developer Preview format with a public beta for selected Pixel handsets starting next month. Curious to see if your Pixel is included in the list? We’ve got the details after the break.
While the Android 12L Developer Preview is targeted at Android Studio users i.e. developers, the public beta will be available for Pixel phone users who want to live at the cutting edge and don’t mind the odd glitch or bug. Having said that, Android 12L is meant to optimize the Android experience on tablets and foldable phones so many of its features won’t be noticeable on a regular handset such as the Pixel 6.
The first beta release will be available in December with a final release scheduled sometime after February. This could coincide with the launch of the much-rumored Pixel Fold or could even be pushed back until the 2022 edition of Google I/O which that is usually held during May. The following Pixel smartphones will be able to take part in the Android 12L beta:
- Pixel 3a/ 3a XL
- Pixel 4
- Pixel 4a/ 4a (5G)
- Pixel 5
- Pixel 5a 5G
- Pixel 6/ 6 Pro
Surprisingly, the Pixel 3 XL is missing from the list although considering that it’s just a larger version of the Pixel 3 it’s likely that this omission is accidental on Google’s part.
