The Earth Rated bags live up to our guide’s exacting standards, as well as to those of my dog walker, who walks multiple dogs multiple times a day and picks up multiple poops with Earth Rated bags. When she occasionally comes by to walk my dog, Buddy, we murmur our appreciation for these wonderful bags, before she lures my resistant beast out the front door with gentle tugs and tasty treats.
The Earth Rated bags are sufficiently roomy, at 9 by 13 inches—the exact same size as the Amazon Basics bags. So there’s plenty of space for mess-free tying, even with the biggest of a dog’s doos. And while they don’t appear to be much thicker than the Amazon bags, the Earth Rated bags definitely have a slight edge. One of my colleagues who also converted from Amazon to Earth Rated bags pointed out that with the latter you don’t feel the heat of the poop through the bag. This is something I hadn’t noticed initially, but it’s absolutely true.
The bags work well in all types of weather, which means they’ll be reliable each and every time. “I’ve used the Earth Rated bags on -10 degree winter days as well as in +100 degree weather. They do great in both extremes and all that falls in between,” said poop bag guide author Mel. “They open easily even with dry frozen fingers, and they stand up well to the sticks, leaves, and other pokey things that Dave seems to love pooping on and in.” (To be completely clear, Dave is Mel’s dog.)
I also appreciate that the bags tear cleanly at the perforation that separates them, so you won’t waste bags (other bags I’ve tried would rip before I could even use them). Also, when there are only three Earth Rated bags left in the roll, you’ll see a handy sticker, so you’ll know it’s time to replace them.
