This Blanket Keeps Me Cool Through Even the Hottest Texas Summers

In Wirecutter’s guide to blankets, senior staff writer Jackie Reeve notes that the Evercool comforter works best when it’s directly touching your skin (that is, no top sheet). This means it isn’t ideal for sharing with another sleeper, since you’ll likely want a full burrito situation so that you can keep shifting the blanket around to find the cool spots as it warms. We solved this problem by ditching our top sheet, purchasing a second Evercool comforter, and sleeping Scandinavian style, with a comforter for each side of the bed. This works great for us, but it’s more expensive than buying a single blanket—especially considering that a king-size Evercool comforter already costs around $250.

Additionally, the Evercool comforter is very slippery—if I don’t tuck it under my mattress, hospital-corner-style, before bedtime, it will fall off while I sleep.

The blanket also won’t win any interior-design awards. It’s more functional than stylish, but at least it comes in a few different colors.

The Evercool comforter could be the ugliest blanket in the world, and I would still curl up with it every night. I’ve even considered buying a twin-size one to bring with me while traveling.

Since I’ve purchased the Evercool comforter, my life has truly changed. Not only can I sleep through the night, but I also feel far more prepared for any natural disasters or heat waves that might come my way.

Most importantly, I’ve officially amended my rules for surviving a Houston summer: always wear sunscreen, stay hydrated, and never, ever, go to sleep without an Evercool Cooling Comforter.
