This Galaxy S25 Feature Is a Helping Hand for Content Creators

I don’t consider myself to be a content creator, but I regularly make music covers, and that means taking a lot of videos. I’ve realized that recording at 4K/60 on my S22 Ultra looks so much better than FHD/60, but despite having 512GB of storage, free space is a concern. That’s why I’ve recently just settled for recording in FHD.

I’m sure storage concerns aren’t unique to me, and for people who record content even more frequently than I do and/or have smaller storage capacities, it’s even worse. The good news is that if you have a device in the Samsung Galaxy S25 series, you’ll be able to record videos directly onto USB-C external storage.

Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Family Provides a Way to Record from the Camera App to an External Drive

If you record videos for your business, your social media accounts, or any other platforms, it’s important that they look as good as they can. That’s why recording in 4K (or 8K for mobile filmmakers) is a nice feature to use, especially with Samsung’s flagship smartphones. The only thing is that 4K video files are significantly larger than FHD, so you’ll run out of storage pretty quickly if you only record in 4K.

The good thing is that the Galaxy S25 series brings something to make that a lot less of a worry, especially if you’re very serious about video recording. If you have an external hard drive that connects via USB-C, you can now connect that to your smartphone and record videos directly to the external storage. That’s a lifesaver, and it also makes it a lot easier to offload that footage to a PC for editing.

Keep in mind that if you check your Galaxy S25 right now (if you’re reading this from the future), you won’t find the option. That’s because you need to download the Camera Assistant app from the Galaxy Store, which unlocks a bunch of advanced camera features for the photography and videography nerds in the audience. According to Ice Universe, the latest version of the app brings external storage support for the newest phones.

Will This Feature Find Its Way Down to Older Devices?

We’ll likely keep having news of new features for the S25 series trickle out prior to general availability, as very few people have their hands on the phone at the moment. Since Samsung itself didn’t talk about the ability to save videos to external storage, all we can know is what the reviewers and tipsters tell us.

While we now know that the ability to save videos to external storage is available for Galaxy S25 users who install the latest version of Camera Assistant, the question I have is whether that feature will find its way to older Samsung flagships.

I installed Camera Assistant on my S22 Ultra, but even though it is the latest version, that setting is nowhere to be seen. Might I see it when I finally get the One UI 7 update, or will Samsung try and convince us it can’t come to older devices because of hardware limitations (I doubt that)? We’ll have to wait and see, but I do think it is a feature a lot of us can make good use of, saving us from needing to download third-party cameras.
