There’s Nothing Left To The Imagination Regarding The Upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 6

It’s normal for leaks to increase in frequency and intensity as the launch date of the respective device gets closer. The Samsung Galaxy Fold 6 (as well as the Z Flip 6) is less than a week from its launch, and now, Evan Blass, a respected leaker, has just given us access to everything we need to know about the Z Fold 6.

There’s a lot to cover, but we’ll break it down, while also comparing it to the Galaxy Z Fold 5 that came before it.

The Design

We’ve known it for some time, but the Z Fold 6 changes up the design of the Z Fold lineup by finally losing the rounded corners and going for a more angular design. I’m a fan of the change, though I know some folks aren’t.

However, with the new look, the device gets lighter than its predecessor, going from 253 grams to 239 grams. That’s not bad at all. It also gets much thinner, as it is now just 12.1 mm when folded, as opposed to 13.4 mm. It’s a slow journey to sub-10, but we’re getting there.

The device is now officially more durable than the Z Fold 5, as it gets IP48 certification while the previous model only had IPX8. However, note that this could mean Samsung simply didn’t test dust resistance with the previous model. This level of dust resistance will still allow objects smaller than 1 mm into the device, so don’t consider this to be beach-safe. Samsung sticks with aluminum for the frame and says it is tougher this time around.

The Screens

When it comes to screen sizes, things mostly stay the same. You still get a 7.6-inch display on the inside, but the outside gets just a tad larger at 6.3 inches (up from 6.2). However, the inside screen gets a 1.5x increase in brightness, to 2,600 nits. The resolution is 2160 x 1856, which is only slightly different from the Z Fold 5 due to the aspect ratio change. However, besides that, things remain the same. Both screens are still 120Hz AMOLED screens.

The Hardware

Quite naturally, the Z Fold 6 upgrades to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, which will provide better performance across the board. The device seems to solely be available in a 12GB/512GB configuration, which isn’t bad, but it would be nice for there to be a 1TB option like last year.

The battery is still 4,400 mAh and the charging is likely still the same boring 25W that Samsung has recycled for several years now. So, for the most part, not much has changed with the internals, besides the chip.

The Cameras

On paper, nothing has changed in the camera department. It is still a 50MP primary camera paired with a 12MP ultrawide and a 10MP 3x telephoto. You still get 8K/30 video recording with the main sensor.

On the cover display, the selfie camera is the same 10MP module, and the under-display camera on the foldable screen remains 4MP. I was hoping to see at least some kind of improvement on paper but it doesn’t seem Samsung is interested in that, even despite the rumored increase in price.

However, you will supposedly still get better images than last year thanks to the ProVisual Engine which seems to take advantage of the better NPU in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. It should supposedly also help improve your zoom quality.

The Miscellaneous Factors

You won’t be surprised to know that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 is going to come with Galaxy AI right out of the box, and that means you’ll get features like note summarization, the interpreter feature, but conveniently using two screens instead, and Circle to Search will be accessible on the device’s inner display as well. S Pen functionality stays in town too, though you’ll need to purchase the stylus separately.
