For the first time since the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold lineup became a thing, Samsung has decided to shake things up a bit. We got the Galaxy Z Fold 6 on schedule, as expected. However, it seems that the company wanted to shake things up this year by introducing a new model.
The new model is going to be called the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition as we’ve learned. It also seems set to be a regional exclusive device, slimmer than the regular model and has a bigger screen. And after these months of image-less rumors and leaks, we finally get our very first look at the Special Edition’s design.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition Is Still Coming This Year, And Here’s What It Looks Like
Samsung released the Galaxy Z Fold 6 in July and the device came with a rather noticeable shift in its design language and a few upgrades to the hardware here and there (though it still annoyingly maintains its 25W “fast” charging) and a higher price. That’s not the end of the South Korean manufacturer’s foldable launches for the year though. This isn’t like other years, clearly, as the Special Edition model of the Z Fold is expected soon.
We’ve heard a lot about the device and now that it is essentially confirmed (though not officially), we’ve been starving to actually see what the phone is going to look like. After so long, thanks to an exclusive from the folks at Android Headlines, we now have our very first look at the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition.
There’s certainly enough of a design difference to tell this device apart from the Z Fold 6. It seems to be a lot slimmer (which is meant to be a big reason for its existence). Its back panel also has a brushed metal finish, which would be a very interesting return for metal as a major material in a flagship device (the OnePlus Nord 4 did it too, but that’s not a flagship). The camera bump also has a rectangular profile and juts out a lot more.
There Are A Few Specs For The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition Floating Around The Internet
The one obvious thing about the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition that’s well-known is that it is meant to be a slimmer form of the Z Fold 6. Rumors say that it’ll measure 10.6mm when folded and an impressive 4.9mm when unfolded. That does make me question the battery Samsung will be able to fit into it, considering the thicker Z Fold 6 only manages a 4,400 mAh cell.
The inner display is expected to be larger, at 8 inches, and the cover panel will also climb to 6.5 inches. Perfect for the people who feel the Z Fold 6 simply isn’t big enough. There was some talk that it wouldn’t support the S Pen, but now that seems to not be the case.
We have no idea when the device is going to launch, but it does seem that it’ll be this year (potentially next month) and it will have a very limited release — in South Korea and China only.
