This Nothing Phone 2a Leak Could Be The Real Deal

Another Nothing Phone 2a Leak And This Seems More Like It

Thanks to Smartprix and X tipster OnLeaks, we were able to get a look at the Nothing Phone (2a) some weeks ago. It seemed to go for a printed internal design instead of a transparent back, and it looked likely to drop the Gylph interface on the mainline Nothing Phones.

However, that old leak doesn’t seem to have been the real thing. We’ve just looked at a new leak, courtesy of Smartprix and OnLeaks once again, and it looks more consistent with the Nothing DNA we’ve all fallen in love with.

The renders show a flat display, thin bezels, and flat matte sides. The back looks like it will be transparent glass, showing off dark grey internals on the bottom half (similar to the previous leak’s design). The top half has a concentric circular island with two horizontally aligned cameras in the center. We can also see two Glyph lights curving around the left side of the circular island and a vertical light on the right side.

Previous Specs Were (Kinda) Wrong: Not Coming With A Regular Dimensity 7200

We reported on the Nothing Phone (2a) specifications earlier, and for the most part, nothing has changed regarding what to expect. While we mentioned that the chipset working magic in the device would be MediaTek’s Dimensity 7200, Carl Pei debunked this in a post on X.

Well, now we know that the Nothing Phone (2a) will come with a MediaTek Dimensity 7200 Pro, thanks to an official post. If you’re up to date on modern mobile chipsets, you might have an eyebrow raised right now — “That doesn’t exist!” you say. You’re right. That’s because Nothing had this chip custom-built in collaboration with MediaTek.

They claim the chip offers better performance than the Snapdragon chips they were considering, so the MediaTek name shouldn’t be a dealbreaker.

The Run To The Nothing Phone 2a Launch Has Been Interesting

Nothing is a brand that is breaking into the smartphone space from the bottom of the pile, so they certainly have to find a way to get customers’ eyes on them to sell well. We’ve seen devices like the Essential PH-1 attempt to break into the market and fail. Fun fact: Nothing now owns Essential.

There was no indication of the launch date for a long time. We’ve seen two supposed official designs for the phone, and the company continues to tease and trickle info out at a steady rate. It’s working, though, because we’re certainly watching.
