I have a serious love-hate relationship with cheese.
On the one hand, it’s cheese. On the other hand, I can’t stand grating it, and the pre-shredded bagged stuff just doesn’t cut it for some recipes. While the anti-caking agents (normally cellulose or starch) on pre-shredded cheese are perfectly safe to eat, if you’ve ever wondered why your mac-and-cheese sauce turns out pasty and gloopy, they’re likely the culprit.
So when I saw a few different variations of a rotary cheese grater on TikTok, I was very intrigued. I can just turn a crank and have mountains of cheese at my fingertips? Say less, I’m already ordering it.
Out of a few different options circulating on social media, I settled on the Susteas Rotary Cheese Grater. It comes with several blade panels that can easily be swapped out, depending on the type of grate you want, and a case to keep all of the panels organized.
To find out whether it could live up to the hype, I ran this thing through its paces, shredding cheese, as well as carrots and potatoes. I also tested several viral hacks, like crushing graham crackers and Oreos to make pie crusts and breaking down walnuts to mix into cookie batters.
