Laptop deals are a dime a dozen, but it’s rare to see an already super-cheap laptop going for even super-cheaper.
That’s what Best Buy is doing with the Asus Vivobook, though. You can get this 14-inch Windows 11 laptop with 8GB of RAM and a 128GB SSD, for just $220 at Best Buy right now. That’s almost half off! (It’s also being sold on eBay through Best Buy’s official account.)
Normally I wouldn’t recommend anyone run Windows 11 on just 8GB of DDR4 memory, and the 128GB drive is pretty pokey, too. But this laptop has a secret that makes this deal amazing: you can upgrade both of those suckers. Take some screws out of the bottom, pop the panel off, and throw in a new 16GB DDR4 SO-DIMM (Amazon link) and a 500GB Gen 4 M.2 drive (Amazon link). That’s a respectable build for under $300 total.
Look, I know the idea of upgrading your own hardware can be intimidating. But if you can re-install Windows on your own, you can handle this. I believe in you. Yes, you, Jeremy. (I know your name probably isn’t Jeremy, but if it is I just blew your mind.)
The 12th Gen Intel Core i3 processor with its Iris Xe graphics isn’t going to play Space Marine II with ray tracing, but it can certainly handle a few rounds of Fortnite or Minecraft. And the 1080p screen should be enough to cover all your web surfing needs. I dig the touchpad that can double as a number input pad in a pinch, too.
Though this Vivobook isn’t the sleekest machine around, it’s packing plenty of ports with no need for a dongle: USB-C, triple USB-A, full-sized HDMI, and a headphone jack. There’s just one bummer — you’ll have to charge it via the old-fashioned adapter. There’s no USB-C charging.
Deals on super-cheap laptops like this don’t last very long, and this one only has 14 hours left (as of this writing). If you’re in the market for a Windows machine at the absolute lowest price, snag this one fast.
