This week Apple was granted a series of design patents in Hong Kong and the U.S. covering the Magic Keyboard with Touch ID, the Mac Pro Rack Mount, Apple Pencil and Magic Keyboard for iPad. Our report also covers Apple’s figurative trademark filing for “Siri” in both the EU and Hong Kong.
Unlike “patent applications” that provide the public with an abstract, summary and details of an invention, design patents published around the world are limited to only providing the public with design patent figures. No additional specifics of the design are made available.
Magic Keyboard with Touch ID
The Hong Kong Patent Office granted Apple a pair of design Patents covering the Magic Keyboard with Touch ID under numbers 2117929.4M001 and .4M002. Apple filed their design patents under Locarno Classification 14-02 covering “Data processing equipment as well as peripheral apparatus and devices.”
Apple was granted a second design patent for Magic Keyboard in Hong Kong as presented below with all four corner keys emphasized with the Touch ID button highlighted to ensure this is protected from competitors.
U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
On Thursday the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office granted Apple a series of design patents. Below are patent figures from the three key design patents covering the Magic Keyboard for iPad, Apple Pencil and Mac Pro Rack Mount.
Figurative Trademark for Siri

On Friday, the European Union’s Intellectual Property Office published Apple’s application for the figurative trademark for Siri that was filed in the U.K. The EU filing listed the trademark having been filed under Nice Class 11 which doesn’t seem to fit correctly being that it relates to “lighting, heating, cooling, air conditioning, humidifying, dehumidifying, ventilating, cooking, refrigerating, washing, drying, plumbing, water supply, and sanitary purposes; light bulbs.”
The same trademark was filed in Hong Kong under application 305802741 and it listed the trademark being filed under the International Class 09 correctly. This primarily covers “Voice recognition software, speech to text conversion software; computer software for enabling hands-free use of consumer electronics through voice recognition; personal vehicle integration software,” and more.
Below is the Siri logo presented in both the EU and Hong Kong trademark filings.
