As we reported last week, Threads has begun to globally roll out Custom Feeds based on specific topics. And Meta seems to be really listening to users recently, as the company has now promised to add an option to let users set which feed they want to see by default.
Threads will have option to choose default feed
The news was shared by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg in a post on Threads. According to him, the platform is now “testing” the option to choose any feed as the default. This includes choosing not only between For You and Following, but also a custom one. This means that users will be able to choose which feed they see first when they open Threads.
“Testing the option to choose any feed — For You, following, or a custom one — as your default. Also making this more visible in the app. Interested to see how and if people use this,” Zuckerberg said.
Currently, the Threads app opens in the For Your feed by default. This is the feed with suggested content based on algorithms. More recently, Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri revealed that Meta is changing the Threads algorithms to prioritize posts from accounts followed by the user, another long-standing request from those who use Threads.
Users can swipe down on the Threads home screen to access the Following feed, which, as the name suggests, only shows posts from accounts you follow. The same applies to Custom Feeds – but the app always returns to the For You feed after being closed and reopened.
Many users have noticed that Meta has been ramping up the development of new features for Threads recently. Although the company didn’t say a word, some believe that this is related to the rapid growth of Bluesky in recent months. While Threads still has far more users than Bluesky, its competing platform has gained more than 13 million users in the space of a year.
There are no details on which users will have access to the new features first or when Meta plans to make it available to everyone. In any case, make sure you have the latest version of the app installed in order to get access to the new features. The Threads app is available for free on the App Store.
