TikTok, ByteDance ‘Peril’ Spur Review of Employee Visa Screening


The Department of Homeland Security is concerned some foreign nationals working for video streaming app TikTok and parent company ByteDance in the US have ties to the Chinese Communist Party.

“That is indeed a concern of ours, and we are working to ensure that the visa screening process is as robust and vigilant as it needs to be,” Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas told Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on Tuesday.
