TikTok Notes will become a new home for your pictures
Tiktok has long been a video doom scrolling app. Although it released a photo mode update in 2022, it didn’t quite feel natural. Their core identity was already built on short-form videos with music and effects. This type of content was far more engaging than a bunch of selfies and photo slides.
A new app is on its way to fix that. When it arrives, your picture posts will automatically appear on TikTok Notes and you can upload new ones. The current TikTok app has sent notifications to users worldwide to alert you of the changes.
You’ll see a toggle switch for turning off sharing existing TikTok photos to Notes if you don’t like the idea. If you haven’t received the public alert, be patient. It’s only a matter of time before it gets to you.
New website domain for TikTok Notes spotted
We caught sight of a new domain ByteDance has designed for its upcoming Notes app. The URL is notes.tiktok.com, and the site will most likely resemble the existing Tiktok web version where you can upload content and scroll through other users’.
Initially, the domain was photos.tiktok.com but that one’s no longer functional. ByteDance was originally going to call the app TikTok Photos, so it makes sense that they deactivated the site and created a new domain for consistency.
For now, a marketing placeholder image is visible on the Notes site with a button to open the app. It should redirect you to your respective phone stores when the app becomes available for download. Speaking of, availability is limited to Canada and Australia for the moment. TikTok hasn’t released word on when a wider rollout will commence.
Features to expect on TikTok Notes
TikTok Notes will bring familiar features you’re already used to on TikTok — but without the videos. You’ll have For You and Following feeds, as well as the ability to log in with your existing TikTok account. Your For You feed shows pictures from different users you might be interested in and there’s a search feature to help you find more content.
You can leave comments beneath pictures, like then, or even bookmark them. Creating yours is easy, and you can add captions under them. Also, you may adjust the privacy settings so that anyone or no one can leave comments on your posts. It’s unclear whether you can add sounds and how much more on the app. But we’ll keep our fingers crossed that TikTok won’t make us wait too long for the global release.
