Trump says Microsoft may buy TikTok; Marvel Snap is back

Digital collectible card game Marvel Snap is back in the App Store, after the game’s developer seemingly severed connections with TikTok parent ByteDance.

Trump has suggested that Microsoft is negotiating to buy TikTok, despite the company’s CEO having previously described the suggestion as “the strangest thing” …

Marvel Snap back in the App Store

While we colloquially refer to a TikTok ban, the actual prohibition is on US companies having dealings with the app’s owner, ByteDance. Marvel Snap was published by Nuverse, a subsidiary, and therefore also affected by the ban.

It now seems that the game’s developer, Second Dinner, has switched publisher, as AppleInsider notes that the app has returned to the App Store.

That all changed on Monday, as Marvel Snap can now once again be downloaded and played on iPhones in the United States. The card-collecting game has also been removed from Apple’s list of ByteDance applications, indicating that the game’s developer, Second Dinner, was likely able to make alternate publishing arrangements. No exact details have yet been provided, however.

Trump says Microsoft may buy TikTok

In a bizarre circular event, it was Trump who first threatened to ban TikTok unless it was sold to a US company. The president has since positioned himself as the savior of the app.

But the first time around, ByteDance approached Microsoft to see whether the software giant might be interested in acquiring TikTok. While Satya Nadella said he could see a potential fit, he also described the approach as “the strangest thing.”

This time, Trump switched to pitching Oracle as a potential purchaser. The company currently provides US hosting services for TikTok, despite the fact that this is illegal, apparently comforted by Trump’s promise not to allow the law to be enforced.

But that idea has gone quiet, and BBC News reports that Trump is now claiming Microsoft is negotiating to buy it.

US President Donald Trump has said Microsoft is in discussions to acquire TikTok and that he would like to see a “bidding war” over the sale of the social media app.

When asked by reporters whether the US tech giant was preparing a bid, Trump replied: “I would say yes” – before adding that there was “great interest in TikTok” from several companies […]

A spokesperson for Microsoft said the company had “nothing to share at this time”. The BBC has also reached out to TikTok for comment.
