Twitter’s Fleets are a fleeting feature

So. Today’s a dark day. A dark day indeed. Twitter has just announced that it’s removing an integral feature on August 3rd that you perhaps didn’t even know was there. I’m talking about Twitter’s attempt to take on Instagram Stories, yup, I’m talking about the ‘Fleets‘ feature which now has just a few weeks left before it meets its demise, less than a year after it first appeared.

As you can read in the tweet above, Twitter says it’s ‘working on some new stuff’ which we take as the social media network threatening users with another new feature to clutter the UI. Naturally, there’s no update on when or if we can expect the most wanted feature of all – an edit button.

As someone who never, ever bothered with the Fleets feature on Twitter the news of its impending doom hardly registers a raised eyebrow, but there must have been someone who was a fan of it. Will you miss Fleets when it gets pulled from service on August 3rd? Let us know in the comments below.

He’s been an Android fan ever since owning an HTC Hero, with the Dell Streak being his first phablet. He currently carries an OPPO Find X2 Pro in his pockets, a Galaxy Tab S5e in his backpack, and thinks nothing of lugging a 17-inch laptop around the world. When not immersed in the world of Android and gadgets, he’s an avid sports fan, and like all South Africans, he loves a good Braai (BBQ).
