Until Dawn Developer Has Reportedly Canceled a Blade Runner Game

exclusive Until Dawn, The Quarry, and the Dark Pictures Anthology series, has reportedly canceled a Blade Runner game. Super Massive’s latest release was The Casting of Frank Stone, a narrative-horror game set in the Dead by Daylight universe. It released to middling reviews, sitting at a 68 on Metacritic for the PS5 version. Supermassive Games also has another game set to release later in 2025, Directive 8020, the next entry in the Dark Pictures series, featuring more action and a sci-fi setting, which sounds pretty similar to the pitch for a Blade Runner game that the company had apparently been working on.

It Could Have Been An Awesome Blade Runner Game

According to a report from Insider Gaming, the Blade Runner game by Supermassive Games was set around you being the only remaining Blade Runner in the year 2065. It would have been about 10–12 hours long, blending the philosophical narrative of Blade Runner with “kinetic action-adventure gameplay.” The project entered pre-production in September 2024, helmed by the team that made The Quarry. Apparently, the game was aiming for a 2027 release, but late last year Alcon Entertainment, the owner of the Blade Runner rights, canceled the project for unknown reasons.

While the game being canceled might suggest otherwise, according to the report, the game looked pretty good. It featured stealth, action, exploration, and investigation, blending the harsh world of Blade Runner with a central mystery for you to uncover. Obviously, this information comes from people familiar with the project who likely worked on the project, so it isn’t surprising that the game sounds good. It’s unclear at this point what that team at Supermassive Games has moved onto since, but Supermassive is still set to release Directive 8020 later this year. Amazon is currently producing a Blade Runner 2099 television series, so it seems as though the owners are willing to make new entries in the franchise, just not the game being developed by Supermassive Games.
