Upcoming Photo King? Vivo X200 Ultra Camera Hardware Confirmed

We’re no longer in the era when there was an undisputed smartphone camera king. These days, the players at the top all have cameras so high-end that choosing a “top” model will likely result in many conflicting opinions. However, with the current slate of flagships, the Vivo X200 Pro should be considered by anyone who knows their stuff.

As good as the X200 Pro is, though (I’m strongly looking at it as my next device), Vivo announced its intentions to release an X200 Ultra, which is meant to be even better. I found myself wondering how it was going to do that, but with a leak from Digital Chat Station and “hints” from a company exec, we might know exactly how.

The Camera Hardware for the Vivo X200 Ultra Has Been Leaked

Considering how crazy the Vivo X200 Pro is as a photography device, it isn’t out of place to expect its “Ultra” compatriot to somehow do better (even if it is hard to fathom how the hardware in the arguable camera king of the moment can get even better). Now, we have some insight into the spec sheet, which paints a good picture of how the phone will live up to that Ultra tag.

The Vivo X200 Ultra is expected to have a 50MP main, a 50MP ultrawide, and a 200MP periscope telephoto camera. On the front side will be a 50MP selfie camera. On paper, that means the selfie camera is the only one that gets upgraded, but that’s just paper. While the ultrawide and periscope telephoto cameras will stick to the same focal lengths of 14mm and 85mm, respectively, the primary camera will have a 35mm focal length.

That’s an interesting move, as it’ll reduce the field of view of the camera (basically a 1.5x camera). Additionally, the 200MP camera is expected to use a larger module than the X200 Pro with a bigger aperture and better lenses. You should be getting 38% more light in images. You’re also expected to be getting the industry’s “strongest” ultrawide setup. All of this comes according to Han Boxiao, a Vivo exec, on Weibo.

The Rest of the Spec Sheet Is Very Solid

The Vivo X200 Ultra has no choice but to be a killer in every other aspect of the spec sheet. Needless to say, it’ll be on par or superior to the X200 Pro in every category. It’ll have a slightly bigger display at 6.82 inches. However, you’ll still get LTPO AMOLED tech, a 120Hz refresh rate, and 2K resolution.

Just like the X200 Pro, you’ll get lightning-fast 90W fast charging, with support for wireless charging, though there isn’t a speed specified—I’d assume it might be 50W to properly one-up the Vivo X200 Pro. The battery will have a capacity in the 6,000s. The IP68/IP69 certification returns too.

Interestingly, Vivo will switch away from MediaTek’s flagship chip and opt for Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite, which is the current king of mobile SoCs. It seems that Vivo refuses to allow a single category be deemed insufficient.
