The third Android 12 beta for Pixel handsets has landed today with a sprinkling of much-anticipated goodies including the aforementioned scrolling screenshot feature that just about every other brand other than the Google Pixel has enjoyed for years. We’ve got the details for you after the break.
Updated: Android 12 Beta 3 OTA files and factory images are now available to download and flash in case your Pixel hasn’t received the update notification.
Besides the much-appreciated addition of scrolling screenshots, the third Android 12 Beta includes ‘enhanced autorotation that leverages the front camera to determine whether you are looking at the phone in landscape or portrait mode. In case you are worried about the privacy aspects of this, rest assured that this is a feature you’ll need to opt-in on to use, you’ll also need to have the Pixel 4 or newer.
Improved privacy indicator APIs are also present that let you set the maximum limits of the indicators and their screen placement according to the device orientation and language settings.
The third Android 12 beta also brings a new on-device search feature called AppSearch that lets apps index data and reveals which apps can access this data if you’ve allowed them to. New Game Mode APIs will let you play games on your device while the title is downloading, while the new dashboard will give you options such as adjusting performance to go easy on the battery or squeezing every last frame out of the hardware.
OTA and factory images for the third Android 12 beta aren’t quite ready to be downloaded but we’ll update the article as and when Google makes them available.
