The world of darkness hides many secrets, and you are in the center of them all. One of the best RPG games ever, Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines, showed us the modern-day vampire society in Los Angeles. The game is a pure classic and something that will stick with you forever as one of the best storylines you have ever played. The main story, the side quests, the society, ranks, classes, and so much more made this non-linear game a fan favorite. It was developed by Troika Games in 2004 and published by Activision. The fans played it over and over, but they reached pure ecstasy when they heard the news of a sequel! That sequel was supposed to come out in March 2020.
The Original Game of Vampire: Masquerade – Bloodlines
This video game classic took the audience by storm. From the moment you wake up as a fledgling, newly created vampire, you get sucked into the amazingly elaborate story of the game. In modern-day (for that time) Los Angeles you are introduced to a vampire society Camarilla, which strives for power and domination. You will also face other sects, ghosts, werewolves, mafia, guns, knives, and crazy characters. And wedo mean crazy ones! The game ending and character development are non-linear, so you can build your own story through amazing dialog options game developers created for gamers.
Bloodlines 2, the Long-Awaited Sequel
After that rollercoaster in the first part of the game, fans cheered for a sequel in the years that came. There were many announcements but none had a high chance of success, like the ones that can be found at Playersbest. And then, a light at the end of the tunnel, Hardsuit Labs announced they will develop the long-awaited Bloodlines 2. The trailers, the demo, everything looked perfect and we have seen how the game will look. Numerous videos with game developers came out, explaining the game features and ideas behind the game development. It looked too good to be true. And it was.
The Never-Ending Delays and Game Postponed
Everything crashed and burned. Maybe the coronavirus outbreak didn’t help, but there were also other internal issues and affairs. In 2021 the official publisher of the game – Paradox Interactive stated that the previous development studio was taken off the project and Bloodlines 2 will be assigned to a new studio. Problem was that the new studio was never announced. Also important thing, and more up to date, Paradox announced a show for the revelation of new games and releases. And our vampire buddies are not on the list of newcomers. Of course, 2023 was perhaps too optimistic, and 2024 or 2025 are more likely for the game’s release. The only good thing is that the game will be released on more different platforms, PC, Play Station, and Xbox.
The Story of the Masquerade – Bloodlines 2
And what is bringing even more pain to the fans of the game is a good story that was announced for the sequel. The World of Darkness has moved from sunny California to rainy Seattle. Again, political turmoil is happening at the time of your “birth” as a creature of the night, and you will have to battle for your survival or ambition. The game trailers showed amazing combat scenes, new powers, and old characters from the previous game. Damsel, the “den mother” of clan Brujah was shown in one of the game trailers.
Conclusion
Numerous setbacks happened to the game development. The best things from the Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines were extensive vampire lore, and amazing dialogue and narrative. Those parts of the sequel are heavily impacted by the departures of creative director Ka’aiCluney and lead writer Brian Mitsoda. The Mtsoda departure was a huge shock to the fans as he was the genius behind the story of the 2004 game. If you add to that the departure of the senior narrative designer Cara Ellison, it is no wonder that the game isn’t released yet. Fans remain hopeful that the game will see the light of day, but the predictions are grim at the moment.
