Verizon is rolling out a promotion that sounds like an April Fool’s joke, but they’re actually completely serious. Starting tomorrow, April 1st, you’ll be able to trade in your busted phone for $1000 in credit towards a new phone, which is a pretty insane deal.
There are catches, obviously, but if you’re holding on to a device with a busted screen, this might be your chance to get something sweet out of it.
Verizon trade-in promo
So here are the details, from Verizon’s own website.
The deal seems to be available just for Verizon’s 5G phones, but that’s most devices these days, anyway. The wording mentions that your cracked or water-damaged phones can be traded in for up to $1000 in credit on unlimited plans with a port-in of another number.
You can be an existing customer, but you’ll need to be bringing a phone number from somewhere else, which nets you $300 or $200 in a Verizon eGift card, depending on if you’re getting an iPhone or Android phone, respectively.
The trade in for your phone beefs the offer up, giving you $700 (iPhone) or $800 (Android) in credits applied to your bill over 24 months, which is pretty typical for Verizon promos like this. The “up to” part of the promo is still a little fuzzy, and you’ll probably only qualify for the maximum amount with something relatively new, and it likely won’t be able to exceed the price of the phone that you’re getting. You can still go for something like a 512GB storage model that’s over $1000, but you’ll be on the hook for paying out of pocket for the rest.
Honestly, if you’ve been thinking about jumping to Verizon, this one might be the way to go, even if it’s just for a couple years. Can’t beat free stuff, and Verizon throws in enough free stuff with their plans that might be enough to tempt you over.
