It’s a feature that hasn’t quite made it to prime time yet but eSIM functionality is certainly becoming more popular with more brands including it on their flagship phones. While the carriers aren’t exactly flocking to support eSIM functionality, we do have news that the budget wireless carrier, Visible, now supports the feature on recent Pixel and Samsung Galaxy smartphones.
What is eSIM?
In a nutshell, it’s a method of connecting to your network without a physical SIM card. You simply download the eSIM, usually via a carrier’s smartphone app, and it provides the settings your phone needs to access the mobile network. Theoretically, this means you could switch from one carrier to the next in as little as 15 minutes without a physical SIM card and without needing to contact your provider. Sadly it’s the latter benefit that has carriers slow to roll out support for eSIM although more are coming to the party, albeit at a slow pace.
