The Vivo X100s and X100s Pro have a very special spot in the industry at the moment. They’re the very first smartphones (and the only ones at the moment) to have MediaTek’s brand-new Dimensity 9300+ under the hood.
This isn’t any small feat, considering that by benchmark results, the Dimensity 9300+ seems to be the most powerful mobile chip in an Android phone at the moment. Beyond a top-of-the-line chip, the phones also bring other improvements over their predecessors, so let’s get into that.
The Vivo X100s Gets Sleeker With A Bigger Battery
The Vivo X100s is the “base” model of the lineup that Vivo announced yesterday, but don’t let that word make you feel like this phone is underpowered in any sense. It’s a proper flagship device. It’s not even a lazy refresh of the X100 either, despite a very similar design.
This device is much thinner than its predecessor, going from 8.5mm to 7.8mm, though it retains the same weight. I reckon there are two reasons why the phone doesn’t get lighter: the first is that the battery gets a slight bump to 5,100 mAh from 5,000, and the second is that it now has IP69 water resistance (which is protection against high-temperature water jets, which likely requires beefier seals.
The one downside, and likely the only real one, is that Vivo made the choice to drop the maximum wired charging speed from 120W to 100W. I can’t guess as to why they did this, but it’s not as if 100W is shabby in any way. Besides that, everything stays the same as the X100, including the 6.78-inch 120Hz LTPO AMOLED (though it is flat and not curved here), triple-camera rear setup (50MP primary, 64MP 3x telephoto, 50MP ultrawide) that can record 4K/60 and a 32MP selfie cam.
You’ll be able to get this phone in Titanium, White, Grey, and Green colorways. The Vivo X100s will start at the equivalent of $555 for the 12GB/256GB base model and go all the way up to $720 for the 16GB/1TB option. If the device retains this pricing for a potential global release, it’ll definitely be an amazing option.
The Vivo X100s Pro Goes For A New Imaging Chip
The Vivo X100s Pro gets the Dimensity 9300+ too, and brings its own unique slew of changes to the table. The phone gets just a tad thicker and heavier than the X100 Pro but not the point that you’ll be able to notice. The design remains the same, though you get IP69 water resistance now.
In the camera department, you get the new Vivo V3 imaging chip, which at the moment, only the Vivo X100 Ultra shares. This means you can expect better camera performance than its predecessor especially since the rest of the camera setup stays the same with a triple 50MP setup for the primary, 4.3x telephoto, and the ultrawide. The 32MP selfie camera is the same as on the X100s. Thanks to the new chip, you’ll be able to record at 8K/30.
A lot of the other specs remain the same, such as the 6.78-inch 120Hz LTPO AMOLED display with 1260 x 2800 resolution and 3000-nit peak brightness. The battery is 5,400 mAh and supports 100W wired charging and 50W wireless charging.
The device is available in Titanium, White, and Grey color options. The base model with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of UFS 4.0 storage will cost about $690 when converted, and this will rise to $860 for the 16GB/1TB variant.
