SEATTLE — Washington’s homestand continues for the conference opener against Washington State in Alaska Airlines Arena. This is the first matchup of the season in the Boeing Apple Cup Series, and the 95th meeting all-time between the programs. The game tips off Sunday at 2:00 p.m. PT and will be aired on the Pac-12 Networks with Elise Woodward and Alyssa Charlston on the call. Gary Hill will call the action on 1090 KPTR-AM.

Stat Leaders

Washington ranks No. 3 in the Pac-12 and No. 8 nationally in rebounding margin (13.9). The Huskies are No. 1 in the conference in offensive rebounds per game (17.0), and No. 2 in the conference in rebounds per game (45.12). Washington is No. 4 in the Pac-12 in scoring defense (55.4). Dalayah Daniels is No. 4 in the Pac-12 in both blocks (11) and blocks per game (1.38). Jayda Noble is No. 4 in the Pac-12 in steals per game (2.33).

Last Time Out

Washington defeated Queens (NC) Sunday afternoon, holding Queens to 28 total points scored in the game. It was the fewest points allowed by UW since November 24, 2010 when San Jose State only scored 27. The Husky defense held Queens to shooting 21.6%, well below their season average of 37.9% heading into the game. Freshman Teagan Brown scored a career high 8 points, Haley Van Dyke tied her career high assists with 5, and TT Watkins scored a season-high 8 points for the second game in a row.

The Team

Washington returns eight Huskies from last season with Lauren Schwartz, Jayda Noble, Haley Van Dyke, Nia Lowery, TT Watkins, Trinity Oliver, Lexi Griggsby, and Darcy Rees. Fans will see six new faces on the team this season, as the Huskies welcomed four freshmen from California – Hannah Stines, Teagan Brown, Shayla Gillmer, and Elle Ladine – and two transfers, Dalayah Daniels (Cal) and Emma Grothaus (Lehigh). 

Preseason Nods

Van Dyke earned Preseason All-Conference Honorable Mention recognition, and Grothaus was one of 20 players named to the 2023 Lisa Lisa Award Watch List.
