West Newbury PTO Invites All to Participate Virtually in Annual Apple Harvest Run

    For immediate release

WEST NEWBURY — The West Newbury PTO is pleased to invite the community to participate in the 32nd annual Apple Harvest Run — which will be held virtually this year — to help raise funds for the Dr. John C. Page School and its students.

The Apple Harvest Run typically attracts up to 2,500 spectators for in-person 5-kilometer, 5-mile and 1-mile runs, with all of the proceeds supporting the Page School as its largest fundraising event of the year.

In past years all runners have started at the same time, but in this year’s virtual event participants will be able to run the course they select anytime between Oct. 4 and Oct. 18, and then submit their times online.

Funds from the event help to provide technology updates, library resources, science and math supplies, playground equipment, teacher training, cultural opportunities and field trips, reading program materials and more.

“The Apple Harvest Run has become more than a road race. We have created a community event that attracts local residents and visitors year after year,” said Rachel Jones, one of four directors of this year’s run. “We invite the community to come have some fun, help students, and strengthen the bonds between us all in the process.”

The first 500 people who register for the 5-kilometer or 5-mile events before Sept. 22 will receive a free Apple Harvest Run T-shirt, while all children who register for the 1-mile fun run will receive a T-shirt.

“The race will be virtual this year, but we still plan to have fun, inclusive and interactive virtual events so participants can have a good time while directly benefiting students and education,” Jones said. “Please join us as we have a good time while giving back.”
