If you live in North America and have few friends outside of the continent, it might be a little hard for you to gauge how massive WhatsApp is properly. Worldwide, it has over two billion active monthly users, making it the most popular messaging app ever. That’s for good reason too, since there’s very little that you’d need that it doesn’t deliver on.
The holidays are fast approaching, and once they get here, there’s going to be a whole lot of video and voice calling going on through WhatsApp, more so than any other online platform. This is why the Meta-owned company has chosen this as the perfect time to announce some notable upgrades to the calling experience.
WhatsApp Adds Some Handy New Features For Voice And Video Calling On Mobile And Desktop
The video and voice calling features on WhatsApp are incredibly handy, and the fact that 2 billion calls are made via WhatsApp every single day proves. While there aren’t many places where these features fall short, the team has still decided to add a few handy features that we never realized how much we needed.
Choose Specific Members Of A Group For Group Calls
Most of us who use WhatsApp are in one or two (or fifty) group chats. A family group chat is one of the more common instances, and sometimes, you might need to plan something with a few members, but not all of them. For instance, think of trying to plan a surprise birthday party.
Typically, calling a group will send out a call to literally everyone in that group. However, WhatsApp has just made it possible to select only some of the members in that group before sending out that voice call. That means that you can talk to only the people that you need to talk to, without bothering everyone else.
Improved Video Call Picture Quality
Video calls are great, but they don’t always look crystal clear. The quality of video calls could be better, especially when you have an internet connection with the capacity to handle it.
WhatsApp has just enabled higher-resolution video on solo and group video calls, whether you’re calling from your Android phone or your computer.
Ten New Effects Available For Video Calls
I’m not the kind of guy who likes to use filters or backgrounds in my video calls, but some people do, so they’re going to like this. WhatsApp has improved video calls yet again, adding ten new effects to video calls, letting you do anything from wearing puppy ears to going underwater. I’ll never use these, but I can’t hate on fun.
Full-Fledged Calls Tab On WhatsApp For Desktop
I use WhatsApp on my laptop quite frequently, and for others like me, particularly those who make voice and video calls from their computers, you will now find a full Calls tab available.
From here, you’ll be able to start calls, create links for calls, and even dial numbers directly. It can now do a whole lot more than before.
