Possibly in an attempt to distract users from its ongoing privacy policy controversies, WhatsApp will soon gain support for multiple devices being used on a single account. This means that users will be able to use up to four devices on a single account and still have end-to-end encryption.
According to The Verge, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and WhatsApp chief Will Cathcart told WABetaInfo during an interview that multi-device support would be added to WhatsApp via a public beta program in the next two months.
This is great news for those that have more than one phone or perhaps revert to using a tablet during their off-time. Besides the multi-device support, future beta releases will let users make disappearing messages the default option, along with a ‘view once’ feature that removes photos and videos from the timeline once the recipient has viewed them. Yup, I can’t imagine that feature being abused, at all. As an interesting aside, Apple’s iPad may also gain WhatsApp access.
These new features, one of which has been requested by users for years, may help WhatsApp ward off the threat of Signal and Telegram, would it make any difference to your decision to leave WhatsApp for a competing messaging service?
