Meta has been working on a new privacy feature for WhatsApp, which will enable “advanced privacy” for chats. With the feature, users will have the option to further protect sensitive messages.
WhatsApp adding new privacy feature for individual and group chats
As reported by WABetaInfo, the new privacy feature is currently hidden in the latest beta of WhatsApp for iOS available on TestFlight. Advanced Chat Privacy adds a “new layer of privacy and security to chats,” making it harder for other people to share the content of that chat.
For instance, WhatsApp chats with advanced privacy enabled can’t be exported. In addition, media is not automatically saved to the device’s photo library. Most importantly, Meta AI is completely disabled in chats with advanced privacy turned on. The report says that the feature is being developed for both individual and group chats.
Although WhatsApp already provides messages that disappear after being seen, the new option aims to give users even more choice over how they manage important messages with sensitive topics.
Once available, advanced privacy for WhatsApp chats will be optional and managed on a per-chat basis. When a user enables the new feature, the other people in the conversation will get a notification.
A few days ago, WhatsApp released an important update for its iOS app, which lets users set it as the default calling and messaging app on the iPhone. The option is available to anyone running iOS 18.2 or later. WhatsApp is available for free on the App Store. Make sure you update to the latest version of the app to get access to the new features.
