Macs made before 2017 won’t receive the update.
First announced at WWDC 2022, the macOS Ventura update (also called macOS 13) introduces exciting features like Stage Manager and an upgraded Spotlight search. Apple now confirms that macOS Ventura will launch on October 24th—but will it work on your Mac?
Note: The macOS Ventura update arrives on October 24th, 2022. We expect it to begin its rollout at 10 AM PT alongside iPadOS 16.
Here’s every Mac model with macOS Ventura compatibility:
- MacBook (2017)
- MacBook Air (2017 and Later)
- MacBook Pro (2017 and Later)
- iMac (2017 and Later)
- iMac Pro (2017)
- Mac Pro (2019)
- Mac Mini (2018 and Later)
- Mac Studio (2022)
Oddly enough, Macs made before 2017 simply aren’t compatible with this update. It’s an odd change of pace from Apple, as last year’s macOS Monterey supported some pretty old computers.
Macs made in 2017 or later should automatically install macOS Ventura within a few weeks of its launch. That said, you can manually trigger the download starting October 24th. Simply open System Preferences and select “Software Update.”
Bear in mind that some macOS Ventura features are exclusive to the Apple Silicon chipset. You cannot use Stage Manager on an Intel-equipped Mac, for example.
