Samsung’s S25 series is still relatively far out from launch as we’ll need to wait a few months for 2025 to show its face, but it is easy to state right away that it might be the most anticipated smartphone series of next year. Samsung’s Galaxy S series typically is.
With such high anticipation, we have gotten several leaks and rumors and reports relating to the upcoming devices. Today, a report out of South Korea makes it seem like Samsung might not bother with Exynos chips in the upcoming flagships, which would be rather surprising.
The Samsung S25 Smartphones Could Exclusively Rely On The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4
Samsung’s Galaxy S25 series of smartphones is a little far off, but considering January 2025 is just four months away, the device is a bit closer than you might have realized. As is the way of the tech world, the closer a device’s launch is, the more leaks and reports you’re bound to receive on that device. That’s why it’s no surprise that we’re getting a new chip-related report on Samsung’s Galaxy S25 phones.
According to Hankyung, a South Korean publication, Samsung is going to stray from its familiar pattern of relying on Exynos chips for some regions and Snapdragon chips for others, and instead, simply use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 throughout the entire S25 lineup worldwide.
This isn’t an entirely unfamiliar thing for Samsung though. You might remember that 2023’s S23 series used the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 regardless of where you bought the phone. However, this year, the company reverted back to regional availability for Snapdragon and Exynos models of its devices, except for the S24 Ultra which solely uses a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Now it seems like it’ll be going back to a single-chip system.
Samsung Can’t Make Up Its Mind On The Chip Vendor To Pitch Its Tent With
If all the reports that have been passing by us in recent months are to be believed, Samsung is having a pretty hard time trying to figure out which chipmaker it should settle down with between Qualcomm, MediaTek, and its in-house Exynos options.
Back in June, we heard that Samsung might have been considering using a MediaTek chip in its flagship smartphones for the first time ever, particularly due to the low yield of its own Exynos 2500 and as well as the high price of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. Skipping back to March, the rumor was that Samsung planned to go Exynos-only with the S25 devices. And now, it seems it might be a Qualcomm affair. It’s certainly confusing.
Even in the company’s tablet portfolio, its upcoming set of flagship tablets, the Tab S10+ and Tab S10 Ultra, are rumored to be coming with a MediaTek chip instead of a Qualcomm option for the first time ever. There’s a lot being shaken up in Samsung’s decision-making camp, at least as far as rumors go. It just gives a general impression that the company is struggling with its chip strategy.
