Why Apple will not be launching ‘iPhone Fold’, its 1st foldable smartphone, until 2025

Apple has been working on launching a foldable iPhone ever since its tech rival Samsung launched smartphones that flip and fold. While not much has been disclosed about Apple’s plans on the new smartphone, recent reports suggest that it may be called ‘iPhone Fold‘ which will come with a flexible OLED display and the tech giant will likely launch it in the next two years.

According to a report in
Apple Insider, the Cupertino-based tech company may be ready by 2025 to launch its first folding iPhone which it has been designing and working on for years.

The technology that is required to run a smartphone as such is still being developed, which is causing the delay of iPhone Fold’s launch. It is still not clear what design the upcoming smartphone from Apple will flaunt.

The expected launch of Apple’s much awaited iPhone Fold has been getting pushed for a while now. In September last year, tech analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had said that Apple’s foldable smartphone might not arrive until 2024.

Last month, a report had said that the delay behind the phone’s launch was it’s design as the bulky design of current folding phones does not align with Apple’s design philosophy.

In October, industry analyst firm CCS Insight had forecast that the technology giant would begin experimenting with foldable technology soon.
Ben Wood, chief of research at the firm had stated that if Apple encountered any technical difficulties with the foldable phone, there would be a “feeding frenzy” among haters who would blame the company for the flaws.
According to reports, Apple is currently testing both form factors – flip and fold for its first foldable phone. There seems to be some conflict on which form Apple will choose for its upcoming smartphone, while Samsung has already released flip and foldable smartphones through Samsung Galaxy Fold and Samsung Galaxy Flip.
