We’ve heard rumours that WiiM was looking to make a statement with its new products at what will be the last High End audio show held in Munich, and it has not disappointed.
We knew that WiiM was going to launch a subwoofer (we actually saw it at the Bristol Hi-Fi Show), but the US audio brand has also revealed details of a new amplifier in the WiiM Amp Ultra and two firsts for the company in a smart speaker and subwoofer.
Power and elegance combined
Let’s start with the Amp Ultra first, which WiiM says is it’s most powerful and refined streamer to date. The Amp Ultra is said to build on what was introduced with the Amp Pro and Ultra models, almost merging them together to create the Amp Ultra.
The Amp Ultra can power up to four passive speakers, ideal if you’ve got speakers in different areas in your home or if you’ve got a home cinema set-up you want to bring WiiM’s streaming smarts to.
It can delivered 100W per channel at ohms or a mighty 200W at 4 ohms, and comes with support for Dolby Digital decoding (no Dolby Atmos unfortunately), a HDMI ARC connection and a dedicated subwoofer output, which we’ll get to in just a moment.
Inside is a 32-bit/384kHz ESS ES9039Q2M SABRE DAC with dual TI TPA3255 Class-D amp chips, and six TI OPA1612 op-amps, which in a slightly more digestible way, translates to a sound that WiiM describes as rich and detailed with “ultra-low distortion”.
The 3.5-inch glass covered touchscreen display offers a means of controlling the Amp Ultra (you can also do so through the WiiM Home app on mobile devices. The touchscreen, however, covers input switching, EQ settings, custom wallpapers, VU meters, presets, what you’ve recently played and more, which actually makes it a rather cool addition to the Amp Ultra.
The Amp Ultra supports Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 with LE Audio for streaming audio to the device. There’s also the option to create 24 preset EQ profiles, and Automatic Room Correction that “takes precise acoustic measurements” on your room and optimises audio so it sounds its best.
WiiM’s first smart speaker and subwoofer
The WiiM Sound is the brand’s first smart speaker, packing 100W of power and flinging audio out from its 4-inch woofer and dual balanced mode radiator tweeters to produce “deep bass, clear mids, and sparkling highs” according to WiiM. It’ll support audio up to 24-bit/192kHz, which placs it firmly in the audiophile camp.
You can multiple WiiM Sound speakers for multi-room connectivity which can all be controlled courtesy of the WiiM Home app or by asking Google and Alexa.
The app includes features such as automatic room correction, EQ support and rpesets; while the Sound smart speaker itself also comes with a 1.8-inch touchscreen to control playback. Will it ranke as one of the best smart speakers. We’ll have to find out when it launches later in 2025.
Like the Amp Ultra there’s Wi-Fi 6E (Chromecast, Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, DLNA, or Alexa Cast) and Bluetooth 5.3 to send audio to the speaker, and it can also function as a stereo speaker in a pair, or as centre or surround speaker in a 5.1 home cinema set-up, adding to its versatility.
Last but certainly not least is the WiiM Sub Pro, which is furnished with 250W of power to provide deep bass to your home cinema set-up. With an 8-inch driver and Class-D amplifier, the WiiM Sub Pro is able to deliver a frequency range from 25Hz–200Hz.
Automatic room correction is supported, there’s an RCA input and it also comes with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support too.
Price and availability
There’s no confirmation on pricing for any of these products, but WiiM has said that details on cost will be available later in the year.
The Amp Ultra, Sound smart speaker and Sub Pro will go on sale Q3 2025 through WiiM, through the likes of Amazon and select retailers.
