Will Black Bird return for Season 2 on Apple TV+?

**Warning – Spoilers ahead for Black Bird**

Apple TV+ has only delivered the first two episodes of Black Bird and talk of Season 2 has already begun despite its run on the platform stretching into August.

We confirm if Black Bird will be getting a second season, provide a preview for Episode 3, and highlight an interview with Taron Egerton talking about his role as producer on the project.

Developed by Dennis Lehane for Apple TV+ and based on the 2010 autobiographical novel In with the Devil: a Fallen Hero, a Serial Killer, and a Dangerous Bargain for Redemption by James Keene with Hillel Levin, Black Bird stars Taron Egerton, Paul Walter Hauser, Ray Liotta, and more following convict Jimmy Keene whose 10-year prison sentence is waved in return for eliciting a confession out of serial killer Larry Hall.

Will Black Bird return for Season 2?

No, Black Bird will not be returning for Season 2 as Apple TV+ has billed the show as a miniseries.

In most cases, miniseries or limited series conclude the narrative within one season, especially if it is based on true events – which Black Bird is – as there is limited source material.

There have been exceptions to this rule, however, as was the case with HBO’s Big Little Lies which was originally billed as a limited series and then continued for another season.

Black Bird is not expected to follow this exception though as the show is an adaptation of the real James Keene’s autobiographical novel.

Taron Egerton on being a producer in Black Bird

In an interview with ScreenRant, lead actor Taron Egerton spoke about his role as producer in the series and what prompted him to make that decision:

“It was such an amazing read when I was first sent it, and I thought, ‘Wow, this could be something quite special. I think this is something that I would really want to watch’. By the time this came around, I knew that I was interested in filmmaking conversations as well as acting ones. So, I just asked them if I could be a producer, and if they would welcome my input in that way. And they, very surprisingly and kindly, said yes. That’s how it happened to me.”

In the same interview, Egerton also touched on working with the late Ray Liotta and the father-son relationship they had on-screen:

“From the first day I met him, we clicked into this mode together, and it just felt so natural and warm. And as soon as the cameras rolled, it just felt like my dad. We were lucky because the writing is so brilliant and so well done that you really feel the shared history of these characters; you really feel the love.”
